So wot's all this, then?
If you're reading this, you might be wondering what this blog is actually about. Yes, it's about lots of things. Yes, I know that these catchall blogs are annoying because you likely won't be interested in all the topics. I could start 3 or 4 blogs, I suppose, but:
- A: It's confusing, and I'd never be able to update them all.
- B: Things are interconnected, and I like writing about that, too.
So in the interest of narrowing it down, I've divided Rabbits, Blinkity into categories, available from the sidebar. Feel free to read just one of them, if that's what you fancy: each category has its own feed to make things easier. A quick rundown of each:

Exactly what it says. If you just want updates for Quickmare Studios stuff, read this.
Art and Culture
I'm using the word art in the general sense here, since I don't do visual arts, really. General rambling about music, tv, books, and movies goes here, along with reviews of the same. Just to give you an idea:
A small sample of things I like: Buffy, The Gilmore Girls, Daria, The Good Wife, Parks and Recreation. Fargo, Mean Girls, Tarantino films on occasion. Sleater-Kinney, They Might Be Giants, Sarah McLachlan, Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Jean Sibelius. Jane Austin, Sarah Paretsky, The Blue Sword, Bleak House, trashy fantasy-romance novels.
Things I don't like: Two and a Half Men, CSI:Whatever, Reality TV. Generic action movies with male leads, Teen/Sex/"Guy" comedies, Grease, Twilight. Country music in general, Metallica, Ke$ha. John Updike, Eragon, Stranger in a Strange Land (Not kidding. The writing was brilliant and thought-provoking, but I didn't like it.)
I try not to focus on things I don't like, but don't always succeed at that.
Life
Mostly reflective essays, nonsense/stream-of-consciousness, that kind of thing. Also, organizing tips, recipes, and other things like that if I feel the urge. (Don't worry, this will not become a self-help blog!)
Tennis and Other Sports
I follow tennis a bit; I play (badly) as well. I won't be analyzing things too much, hopefully, as I'm no expert. Instead, I'll go on about impressions and artistry and other weird stuff like that. I also like to discuss the relationship between sports and the rest of society. I'm not above predicting matchups on occasion, though! Favorite players are Stosur, Monfils, Sharapova, Petkovic, if you care.
Handball (the team sport played mostly in Europe, not the squash-like sport) is another passion of mine, although it's difficult to follow here in the States. Weirdo note: I like Heidi Løke, which is a bit like liking LeBron James right now, if I understand it correctly. So sue me.
I sometimes watch WNBA basketball mostly on principle; I don't fully understand it yet, but intend to at some point.
Society and Gender Politics
Here's the big one. Yes, I'm a feminist. Yes, I lean leftwards. Yes, I have some socialist ideals. I'm also very interested in alternative systems of government, especially communalism.
Gender politics are a vital part of understanding how society operates. We're not in a post-racial or post-feminist, or post-anything else world, all rumors to the contrary. The patriarchy is alive and well, there's still class warfare, and privilege still looks out for itself.
It's also super-important we talk about this, and try to understand it, since it's tricky and complicated and confusing.
Staying away from religion and pure politics, for the most part, but no guarantees.
And the weird name?
It's from Tori Amos's "Mr. Zebra," This blog used to be called "Insert Preconception Here," but that's pretentious, a cult-pop-culture-reference >>>> a generic name, and it was too long. So I changed it.
Done yet? Yeah, so all I really wanted to know is, who the heck are you?
Oh, hey, sorry about that! I'm Brian, I'm a computer programmer/writer/whatever currently living in Portland, OR. For oppression olympics purposes: I'm white, college-educated, biologically male. If you really care, I have a personal/professional site that's badly out of date. Follow me on Twitter - that updates about various blog-related subjects; I sometimes tweet along with tennis matches as well. If you want to yell at me about something specifically, try: brian@quickmare.com, or use the contact form for Quickmare Studios.
